Mackinac Island Grand Hotel Sightseeing
The Grand Hotel features three hundred and eighty five rooms, and each room is different from the other. While no two rooms are the same, each one features countless modern amenities. A stay at the Grand Hotel includes both full breakfast and a five-course dinner. Children under 11 stay and eat for free, while guests 17 and younger can enjoy significantly reduced rates. Each room has been tastefully decorated by New York designer Carleton Varney with its own special character and style.
Each room at the Grand Hotel includes a mini bar, in room safe, cable TV, iron and coffee maker, and there are numerous activities to do there. The Esther Williams Swimming Pool is one of the most popular gathering places for guests. This 500,000 gallon, 220 foot long pool is perfect for swimming, sun bathing or just enjoying the beauty of the surrounding area. Poolside food and beverage service is also available, along with two whirlpools adjacent to the pool. The Grand Hotel also has its own 18-hole golf course, The Jewel, along with outdoor tennis courts. Complete exercise facilities are also available near the pool.
The Grand Hotel Spa features body treatment, facials, massage and many other rejuvenating, nurturing and relaxing services which you can enjoy in your guest room or in the salon.
From Memorial Day to Labor Day, guests five years and younger can enjoy a variety of children's programs including scavenger hunts, games, arts and crafts, tours of Fort Mackinac and the island's butterfly houses and a special kids' meal.
At 660 feet, the Grand Hotel's front porch is the longest in the world. This has gained the hotel quite a bit of attention--both the films "The Time for Keeps" starring Esther Williams, and "Somewhere in Time" starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour were filmed here.
In addition to all of these amenities, the Grand Hotel also features eight different dining options, featuring everything from boxed picnic lunches to a massive lunch buffet. The hotel even features a horse-drawn carriage ride to Woods, a restaurant in a local wooded forest housed within an opulent Tudor mansion. Bobby's Bar is also located in the Woods restaurant and serves drinks regularly. Here guests can also test their skills on the oldest operating duckpin bowling alley in the country.
