Mackinac Island Lilac Festival

What once began as a one day event known as Mackinac Island Lilac Day has grown extensively into a ten day festival in June. The highlight of the festival is the Grand Parade, which is one of the largest all hitch horse parades in America. The Lilac Festival Grand Parade has been recognized as a local legacy event by the Library of Congress. The festival features a number of different restaurants, performers and events centered around the Island's beautiful lilac flowers.

The sweet fragrance of the lilacs can be smelt throughout the island during the entire festival. Some of the trees featured are over 300 years old, brought here by early settlers. Because of the festival happening during the summer travelers' season, there a number of souvenirs can be found featuring these famous flowers.

The Lilac Festival is Mackinac's largest annual festival, drawing in large crowds every year. Alongside the parade, there is also a 10k run whose route goes throughout some of the island's most beautiful sights.

Daily events of the festival include a bike tour, walking tour and Harbor Lights Marina display. Make sure to also see the coronation of the Lilac Festival Queen or attend one of the many informational sessions about lilacs. There will also be a number of wine and food tastings throughout the festival.

The festival continues with sunset cruises of the lake, as well as concerts in the park at Surrey Hill. This year, see some of the finest foods, drinks, entertainment and flowers that Mackinac Island has to offer and more.
