Over the past few years, Mackinac has become a particularly popular shopping destination in Michigan. Mackinaw Crossings is Northern Michigan's premier shopping, dining and entertainment area, and features over 45 shops and 8 fantastic eateries. The adventure begins the minute you step foot on the village's cobblestone paths, surrounded by quaint Victorian style architecture and sparkling fountains.
Whether you are wanting the perfect toy, handcrafted jewelry or a new book to read, you are sure to find it at one of the many stores in the Mackinaw crossings. There is even a giant mirror maze and a cinema, along with a Mackinaw Bass-Pro Outfitters store. Meanwhile, the Mackinaw Theater seats 835 people and features many new and exciting performances throughout the year. Past performers have included the Charlie Daniels Band, The Golden Dragon Acrobats and Mel Tillis.
A trip to Mackinac Island just isn't complete without a visit to Mackinac Island State Park. This park ofers some of the most beautiful trailrides, hiking and walking and it's 2250 acres of trails go past some of the most popular spots in Mackinac. Mackinac Island State Park is Michigan's first state park, and has been established since 1875. There are also a number of distinct rock formations located throughout the park, including Arch Rock and Sugar Loaf, along with canopies of cedars and birches.
Fort Mackinac is Michigan's only Revolutionary War era fort, and served as an imposing sentinel in the Straits of the Mackinac for one hundred and fifteen years. See its fourteen original buildings, where you'll discover interactive exhibits, a children's play area, and a Victorian themed store. Reinactments occur daily, featuring costumes, concerts of military music, rifles, and a cannon salute over the harbor.
Thunder Falls Water Park is Northern Michigan's premier full-scale water park, and features the largest wave pool in Michigan. With 20 acres of water slides, beach volleyball, interactive play areas and more, you are certain to find something to enjoy at Thunder Falls. Special attractions include the Hot Shot Tube slide, Clife Hanger slide and Kick Back Creek lazy river.
The Haunted Theater tells the dark and frightening stories of Mackinac Island's folklore and monsters. Learn how the evil Manitou lured area residents to an unfortunate end, or come face to face with the fiend summoning Ocryx. This chilling museum is a fun way to discover more about local legends and lore throughout Mackinac Island.
